Classic Margarita

Cocktails are unique combinations that result from the mixture of an alcoholic beverage with fruits, spices or herbs. The vast majority of cocktails have their own history, and the way of preparing them in their original style that is full of tradition, so if you want to learn more about the margarita cocktail, read on.

What is a Margarita and where it started?

The margarita is a type of drink which results from the mix of tequila, triple dry liquor, lemon juice and salt. The way to prepare it requires specific steps to achieve a good mix of flavors.

There are many theories of the origin of this cocktail two of them are:

  1.  In 1938 Carlos Danny Herrera, owner of the restaurant “Rancho La Gloria” in Tijuana, invented the drink in honor of the showgirl and actress Marjorie King. She frequently visited the place, but was allergic to many drinks, except the tequila, so Herrera got down to business and worked to create a cocktail that would match one of her favorite clients.
  2. Another version says that the bartender at the hotel restaurant where the dancer Margarita Carmen Casinos was staying, was impressed with her beauty and decided to create a drink exclusively for her, later this dancer would become the famous actress Rita Hayworth.

Know more about Margaritas:

In 1977 Jimmy Buffett released a song called “Margaritaville”, this event  popularized the drink.

This cocktail is the most popular one in the USA, on National Margarita Day around 185,000 Margaritas are consumed all around the territory, this day was founded by Todd McCalla around the decades 1930- 1940, with just the purpose to spread his love for Margaritas around the world.

What should you know before preparing a margarita?

It is important to know that there are several tequila liqueurs, where some flavors are stronger than others, so it is important to choose the right tequila to prepare the perfect margarita.

Triple dry liquor is a type of alcoholic drink that has a quite tasty margarita flavor; it comes from the distillation of oranges and helps to improve the level of acidity and sweetness of the cocktail.

On the other hand, we must also talk about lemon juice; you should completely avoid using lemon juice already squeezed since these juices do not have the necessary acidity to achieve the ideal touch for a margarita, it is better to buy soft and fresh lemons so that you can take advantage of that very fresh citrus juice.

How should you prepare it?

Its preparation is quite simple; there are two ways to prepare it: glass or shutter. If you want to prepare a margarita in a glass, you must fill half a glass with tequila, a quarter of triple dry liquor and lastly a quarter of lemon juice. That is to say:

  1. ½ tequila.
  2. ¼ dry liquor.
  3. ¼ lemon juice.

You must mix it very well, and then it is ready to drink. In case you are preparing it in a shutter, you will do it in the same way, but on the edges of the shutter, it is necessary to  put salt,  as this allows opening the taste buds of the mouth.

 Which bottles to choose?

The main flavor of the drink is tequila, that is why we recommend that you choose Don Julio Tequila, it is a fairly soft and low-level distilled drink, it is not expensive , and allows several people to enjoy it, since it is quite refreshing.

For triple dry liquor, you must choose wisely, as a poor choice can harm the flavor experience of a tasty margarita cocktail. We particularly recommend using Grand Marnier or Cointreau triple dry liquor
